OnePlus 8: Design and Display

In terms of design, the OnePlus 8 features an all-glass design with a glass back and curved edges that offer a slim profile, coming at 8mm thickness. The phone comes with 3D Gorilla Glass protection on the back and is available in two finishes and three color options, with Onyx Black and Interstellar Glow available in gloss-finish, and the Glacial Green offered in a matte glass finish. Towards the front, the handset comes with a 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and provides a 2400 x 1080 pixels screen resolution with 402ppi pixel density. It includes support for sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamut, and lastly, as its name suggests, the Fluid display also brings along the 90Hz refresh rate. Moreover, it also includes a hole-punch cutout on the top-left to house the front-facing camera.

OnePlus 8: Performance

Under the hood, the OnePlus 8 is powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor with Adreno 650 GPU, which is the latest offering from Qualcomm and comes with the X55 modem. Assisting the processor is the 8GB / 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, with a 4300mAh battery to power the internals. The battery comes with OnePlus’ Warp Charge 30T fast charging, which, the company suggests, takes just 22 minutes to charge the phone up to 50%. As for other specifications, the handset comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner and facial unlock for authentication, a USB Type-C (3.1) port, dual stereo speakers, and Dolby Atmos. For connectivity, it offers 5G (SA / NSA), dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 6, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.1 with support for aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, and AAC. On the software front, it runs on OxygenOS based on Android 10.

OnePlus 8: Camera

For optics, the OnePlus 8 sports a triple-camera setup on the rear, arranged in a vertical orientation, with a dual-LED Flash. The setup includes a 48MP primary (Sony IMX586) sensor with f/1.75 aperture and OIS + EIS, along with a 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 116° FoV, and a 2MP macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. Talking about video shooting capabilities, the camera can record video in 4K at 30/60 fps, 1080p at 30/60 fps. Moreover, it can also record super-slow-motion video in 720p at 480 fps, 1080p at 240 fps.

On the front, the device comes with a 16MP (Sony IMX471) sensor with f/2.45 aperture and EIS for selfies and face unlock. It can shoot 1080p video at 30 fps and also supports time-lapse videos.

OnePlus 8: Pricing and Availability

The OnePlus 8 starts at $699 for the 8GB + 128GB model and $799 for the 12GB + 256GB. It will be available starting April 29.
